On our way to the airport, we ran into yet another cow jam, and a big one with probably over 50 cows. We had plenty of time before our flight so the 10 minute delay did not affect us. Well, actually it did. We were 10 minutes late in returning the rental car so we were charged an extra day.  The lady at the car rental counter didn't care about the cow jam excuse.  We're in SLOW season here people, it's not like people are lining up and you are running out of cars!  However, it was completely worth the extra charge have have this fantastic sight as our send off from Terceira.

The view from the plane as we left Terceira once again in a Q600 Dash 8 which seats about 78 people. The flight from Terceira to Pico was only 25 minutes.

LPPI airport information, location and details Willkommen auf Pico Island • Seiltanz

Pico Airport is very small with a single runway and only 2 boarding gates. However in the back ground you can see Pico Mountain which at almost 8000 feet is the tallest mountain in ALL of Portugal. Most people come here to climb Pico.... um....yeah...not us!

We picked up our rental car, no upgrade this time just the usual Toyota Corolla. The airport is in the North, our AirBnB is in the South. This island is larger than Terceira, 28 miles long and 11 miles wide. However, it is much smaller population wise only having 14,000 residents, vs. Terceira's 54,000. The country side is completely different, gone are the countless stone walled meadows where the farmers move their cows from one small meadow to the other every few weeks so the grass can regrow. Instead here the have the more conventional cattle farming where the cattle roam a large range. Also a lot of forests and wild vegetation.  However, this view may change once we explore more than an hour from the airport to our house. LOL

Our AirBnB is very nice, modern with washer, dryer and dish washer. There are 2 great patio areas and a BBQ area.  While the view is not as spectacular as the last place it is very acceptable! (Wendy just yelled at me, "Shut up Sparky, the view is awesome you pompous $#@&!!")

They provided us with a welcome basket, and the place even has an espresso machine as well as coffee machine. Coffee included. Wonderful! There are also orange and lemon trees in the yard for our use! And local cats came to visit!

About a 3 minute drive from us is a cafe/bar/grocery store.  Very, very typical in these parts and so far.... they are everywhere! Have a coffee or a beer, use their Wi-Fi, buy groceries - it's one stop shopping! The owner gave Wendy a couple of tangerines off their tree. Here not a lot of people speak English, so Wendy had to take out her Google translate app which works very well.  She has a new best friend and they will be having a vino together tomorrow and communicate via App.  LOL

And finally...

Very chilly this evening and there is no heat except for a small space heater in the living room.  Here's Wendy warming the toilet seat with a hairdryer!!
